About the Artist

Originally from Western Massachusetts, Phoenix resident Skip Redpath has always made his living in very structured, high stress environments.

He spent eleven years in the U. S. Marine Corps as an Air Traffic Controller where he lived and worked throughout the Southeast U. S., Hawaii, Japan, and Vietnam.

He also spent eighteen years as a Police Officer, sixteen years "on the streets" in Patrol and two years as a Detective. He served six years with the SWAT Team in Illinois and Arizona. Both careers developed skills in precision and perception as well as an extremely keen sense of observation.

However, what also developed was a strong need for balance in his life, a need for serenity and natural beauty. Through the years, Skip has been able to satisfy this need by creating things from wood.

He has found that working in solitude using those highly developed skills, limited equipment, and his hands, he could enhance the natural elements of wood and create objects of beauty.

Skip chooses woods, both exotic and domestic, for their visual beauty as imaged by color and grain. Through precise measurements and cuts he arranges the numerous pieces into subtle designs that are meant to blend and enhance, never compete, with the natural elements of the woods.

His goal is to lead you to contemplate the beauty and serenity of the natural World with something you can pick up, hold and treasure forever.
